Favorite Movies

Topic 6- Movies You Can Re-Watch

In no particular order....well.... maybe #1 is accurate...

1)  Fried Green Tomatoes
I love everything about this movie. It brings both tears and laughter and I cannot understand how The DeShazo hasn't seen it. I keep telling her I'm bringing her the movie to watch- but I never remember.

Oh, Evelyn.
2) Tombstone
Val Kilmer and the one liners....perfect.  If anything, I'd replace Kurt Russell with Robert Duvall. Kurt's just not my favorite...and speaking of Robert Duvall...

3) Lonesome Dove
I realize this is like a 5+ hour movie from way back when, but man, it's great.  Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall helped to make one of the greatest movies of all time.

4) Steel Magnolias
Everybody loves this, right? Well, maybe not many fellas.

5) Hocus Pocus

I could really re-watch any Tyler Perry movie... and on that note....I've had quite a few people ask why Martinez and I dressed as Madea and LeRoy Brown.
Our neighbors have an annual Halloween costume party.  Fun people- great food- and prizes !
I think Martinez and I were just stating names of funny people and these two were our choices- and we decided this 6 days before the party. Thanks to a thrift store, party store and Amazon, we had a costume....though with more time....I'm certain we could have done a better job. I got second place and won some $$$- so thanks Madea! ( And a huge thanks to fabulous neighbors.  Martinez and I have been blessed with great neighbors with both houses we've bought.  This is such a blessing!)

I feel like I super scored with the thrift store, red pants for LeRoy.  I think I paid a buck or two for them and they are excellent!  I may have actually worn them already with my pride- and in excitement- sent the DeShazo many pics of all my shirt options for the LeRoy pants.  Super Score.

So I know this topic was about movies- but I thought I'd throw out some binge worthy series shows...
Also noteworthy, most of these are not for kiddos.  Liv was 2 when I binge-watched 24 and she watched many episodes. She referred to Jack Bauer as "Jack Power". I have no idea why I remember her exact age, but as Martinez and The DeShazo can tell you, I can remember the strangest of occurences down to the date/time/location/detail, yet I cannot remember where my phone or keys are a great deal of the time.
I got side-tracked...
So- I wouldn't recommend that anyone watch anything I binge watch in front of kids- judge it for yourself.
Here a few of my favorites:

24
The Good Wife
Sons of Anarchy (Def not for kids)
Hart of Dixie
Prison Break
Friday Night Lights
Gossip Girl
The O.C. (currently watching)
Blue Bloods (Martinez and I have been slow-binge watching this for a while)- I want to be a Reagan.

On my list to watch:

The Walking Dead
Parenthood

If you have any binge-watching suggestions- please share !

Hey Guys!

Hope your week has been great!
It's fall break week for my big girl and I'm super pumped to spend the day with just her tomorrow!  We need some mom and daughter together time and we are both excited.

Topic 5- Three Pet Peeves

1) Being Late

I despise lateness.  I would imagine if one might ask Martinez, he would probably say I drive him nuts trying to make sure we leave 10 minutes early for everything because being late kills. my. nerves.  In fact, more often than not, we are sitting in a parking lot somewhere killing the early minutes with kids who want out of the car because I'm so crazy.
I used to always, always be early....
and then came children. (Please don't think I'm blaming my kids- it's just that sometimes...those babies seem to have a blowout right when you are walking out of the door and two of you need bath and wardrobe change).

I'm a little more understanding to being late and people being late now that I have kids than before- but it still drives me up the wall.

As The DeShazo reads this, I'm sure she's thinking I'm talking about her....so I'll throw it out there- I'm not targeting anyone. I'm just being honest to the topic 😉

I totally think there are reasons for one to be late- and it happens to us all, myself included. So I'm really talking about REPEAT offenders and when it happens to me after I've put together a plan to be early and said plan fails.  I formulate plans in my head for most things- and set alarms on my phone to remind me to leave and then one to actually leave if it's something out of my normal routine.  This probably also drives Martinez nuts. A few weeks ago, we had somewhere to be and we were a bit cramped for time.  I remember discovering the time and exclaiming "yes, I beat the deadline in my head!"....and Martinez staring back at me as if my face had turned green or something.
I've always considered being late as a selfish/disrespectful thing. Other people are involved in almost everything we do- so why show up late constantly to dinners, parties, worhk, etc?  Other people have put their time and energy into something - so we should make an effort to be timely so as not to waste their time either.
The Deshazo has pointed out to me that there is another side to this.  While I still don't understand it....maybe she'll blog about why it's ok to be late one day !

I'm sure after writing about being late, I'll be late to my next several appointments.

2) Whistling

I cannot handle whistling.  It literally makes me suck in air.
I don't know why it bothers me....or when it started....but I can't take it. No matter how well tuned the whistle or to what song/melody- keep it out of my earshot. Please.
(Martinez, please remember this post isn't targeted at anyone.  K? Thanks.)

3)   No Breathable Air Available

I drink a lot of water. I drink around a gallon minimum a day.  This is something I started in 2012, you know, because it was time to stop drinking Dr. Pepper and sweet tea all day, err day.
The DeShazo seems to drink even more water than me, so you may conclude that we make frequent visits to the restroom....which leads me to me to this peeve.  Folks,  a person should be able to enter a restroom and be able to inhale.
For the last few months, it seems as though 3 to 4 times a day, my entrance to the restroom is met with the foulest of odors and when you have the gag reflex of a child, this is an issue. Like, a serious problem.  I know you guys can read between the lines here...and I realize that we can't always control this situation....but we need to make an effort here, people.  If you have the ability to control said situation, please do so.  The other people, wherever you may be, will be forever grateful. Keep in mind the term "courtesy flush".  And if the water isn't clear when you are ready to exit the restroom, you might want to flush again.  Just some free advice.

Three Good Thoughts

Hello All!

This week has been a rough one... but the weekend is almost here.
For the Martin's, that means a fall party, a birthday party, church and I'm hoping to squeeze in hours of Netflix binge watching...only now that I think about it... we really won't be home much at all.

Three Good Thoughts- Topic 4

1) I'm free
Shelby dropped off Michelle Knight's book, Finding Me, a couple weeks ago. This is a memoir of Michelle's life before and during her captivity in Cleveland, Ohio.  I cannot imagine how this girl survived 10-11 years with Ariel Castro, and two other captives.  She was raped, beaten, and starved. Can you imagine having a decade of your life stolen from you?  You rely on the person who took everything from you for water...food....anything. It's so sad.
So, I'm thankful I'm free.   I'm able to wake without chains...I'm able to be with family.
No matter what else is going on - I'm free.

This book is graphic, but it's a book that will make you look around and just be thankful for what you have.  I know I'm so blessed and need to focus on that so much more!

2) Coffee

No matter how sleepy I am, there is coffee.  Lots of it.

3) My Kids

I love these little people.  Do we have bad days?  Of course....but most are good or great and I cannot imagine life without them.

They love each other !

Don't forget to check out The DeShazo's blog here.

If you have time to make this with your kiddos- it's fun.

Halloween Cookie Pizza (Pinterest recipe)

Get a sugar cookie roll, smash it and make it like a pizza and bake it at 375 until it's dark brown; spread half cup of peanut butter on the crust; then add crushed oreos/candy corn/chocolate chips/whatever you like; then heat up a half cup of vanilla frosting and drizzle it on the top.  Livi loved making this !

Until Next Week,

Hello Friends-

Hope your week as treated you well!

10 Songs I'm Into - Topic 3

So here's the deal, I'm into way more than 10 songs. Way more.  And depending on my mood, which I might add changes second to second, the "way more than 10 songs" changes too.   I've often times made The Deshazo suffer through one my "name the singer" days, wherein I play her countless songs and make her guess the artist.  When she doesn't get the correct answer within 3 seconds, I berate her knowledge.... and so then... she quizzes me on her more quirky tunes or those Beatles she's obsessed with, and I'm left in the cold with wrong answers.
I mean, we are held in beige walls during the week- we need some entertainment people!  This may be a sign of our insanity....or just mine?

Primarily, I'm a country music girl.  I know many people who say "country music is just people singing about breakups, dogs and drinking".  Yep.  Nailed It.  and I want to hear about it all. Every time.  As I've aged and entered my thirties (Oh my!), I've found myself listening to those oldies a lot.  They take me back in my mind to certain days- nostalgia.

Funny Confession Ecard: You had me at 'Hello' and lost me at 'I don't like country music.':

I feel like this topic is quite restricting- but I'll give it go with songs I'll listen to almost any time.

In no particular order:

1) Vidalia- Sammy Kershaw
Friends, the voice of Sammy singing about a girl named after an onion ?  Do I even need to explain the awesomeness?

I remember having an alarm set to this at one point growing up and my mom wanting me to change it because she didn't really enjoy the screaming of "Vidalia, Vidalia, girl won't ya tell me why...." so early in the morning.

2) Deeper than the Holler- Randy Travis
I've always loved this song.  No specific reason.  I love Randy.  Love the words.  And I can listen over and over.

3) Fishin' in the Dark- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
When Livi was tiny, maybe 2, she would just hear the guitar in the beginning of this song and start squealing.  For a small while, she called this her song.

This song also takes me back to a job I had in high school and college at Fred's.  It was the only decent song on the cd that played on repeat. We had a really good crew- most of us were about the same age and loved this song.  I will also confess to us singing it over the intercom in the store when we shouldn't have.  One person would sing one line- and then another would grab a phone from another spot and sing another line for all the store to hear.
I'm surprised we stayed employed.

4) How Can it Be- Lauren Daigle
Christian music is something I listen to some, but it's never been my first choice.  I have a few Christian songs/ artists I really enjoy- and this is one.  This song gives me chills.

5) Head Over Boots - Jon Pardi
This little fella has a few really good songs- and this one is just cute to me.

6) He Walked on Water - Randy Travis
A classic.  Sweet Randy singin' about a grandpa with no teeth? Yes, please !  I get teary eyed when I hear this song.

7) Ain't No Mountain High Enough- Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
Classic.

8) Dirt- Florida Georgia Line
I think it's just a perfect country song.

9) O Holy Night - Mariah Carey
Most years, you know, before Halloween, I break out my Mariah Carey Christmas cd.  Except last year, I thought someone stole it because it's such high value and I couldn't find it- but Martinez later found it right in the open in my car.
Whatever.
If my life depended on it, I couldn't even guess the amount of times I've listened to this song, screeching in my car to try to reach that high note at the end. It just ain't in the cards for me.

10) Cryin' Crazy, Angel, Dream On, Dude Looks Like a Lady- Aerosmith
I can't choose an Aerosmith song.  He sings/screams his heart out.  I can listen to them all on repeat.

Holy cow.  Listing out some of these songs I listen to alllll the time is making me feel mushy. Gag.
Maybe I'll embrace it.

A few photos from this week...

Yep, a box of graham crackers crushed on the floor.  Folks, it takes literally 30 seconds of me trying to do anything at all before he finds something to get into.  A few weeks ago, it was a box of teddy grahams....and the bathroom trash can.

This big girl was so proud of her award this week.

When did he grow up?

Such a big girl !

Until Next Time,
