False Alarm Savings

I've been thinking about a conversation between Martinez and I and just felt like I needed to type it out.

While I can see how many times my blog posts are read, I cannot see who all reads them.  I mean, I know many of you who are reading them because you've told me or "liked" it.  I also know who some of you are because I know you are like me because either you are stalker too...or you just want to keep up with what's going on. ( That was a very poor sentence ). And then there are those that want to read things merely to critique them.
It doesn't matter how many times my words are read, as this was something started a long time ago with friends to help me get my weight down, and then turned into something fun.
Whatever the blog post topic, I can always count on my husband to read them, which leads me to this...

After I had finished my nightly makeup removal/teeth brushing routine on Thursday, I walked out of the bathroom and Martinez said, " I just almost threw up after reading your blog.  I had no idea you did that with cottage cheese."
He had just read "30 Facts About Me".
So I laughed and said, "I know.  It's disgusting.  Aren't you glad I save my cottage cheese squishing for Amy".

We had a few laughs about the weird quirk and quirks we knew other people had.

Then, laying in bed about 10 minutes later, he said, "I didn't know you thought you were saved and weren't."

I sat there for what seemed like 5 minutes, but it was probably only 2 seconds, and then said "I know.  I don't talk about that."
I felt nervous for some reason and have no idea why.  He then said, " I did the same thing as a kid."

You guys may need some background information here.
Kevin and I were married within months of dating each other.  I lived in south Arkansas, while he lived here in OKC, as he was in the military then.  His sister and I were friends and co-workers....and after me getting over the fact that I would never date/be with a military person.... I gave into the idea provided by Martinez' dad that we would be a good match.

Because of the distance, we saw each other once a month, and during our short dating time,  he deployed to Nicaragua.  When we decided to get married, everything was so fast that many people, including some of our closest family on both sides and friends, were very thrown off and questioned it.  I had a few people actually have the nerve to ask if I was pregnant. We loved each other (still do!) and knew.  We discussed that the other was saved and knew that each other had grown up in church and that Jesus/church would be something in our lives/marriage.

All that to say, we both left a few parts out with each other.  I didn't tell him that I was completely insane and I would never be ok with shoes sitting inside the house anywhere except the closet, he didn't tell me that he whistled allll the time, and we didn't tell each other about our false alarm savings.

I'm not saying any of this because I think it hindered any part of our 9+ year marriage, because I'm certain it hasn't.
I guess I'm saying this because what happened later was really cool.  We both spilled our guts about what we think happened with our false alarms....and then what happened in the real moments we were saved.  We sat in bed, eating the cookies that he had purchased at the store when he only ran in to get the toilet paper that I never remember, and we talked about moments in our childhood that crafted us differently from that point forward.

I suppose another reason for sharing this- is that surely we aren't the only people this has happened to- and if it has happened to you- it's ok.  I'm not a person who is very good in the least at sharing the Bible.  I can remember the strangest of facts and emails from three years ago at work, but when it comes to scriptures and answering hard questions- I'm not your gal.  I should be, considering the fact that I was raised in two fabulous churches with great teachers/leaders/pastors, but it's something I need to work on so much.

I'm not sure why I feel like I needed to type this- but I did....and now I'll have you look at the Martinez and I...

I would have gone back for older photos...but I take so many pictures that it takes forever to load.

30 Facts About Me

Hello Friends-

I hope your Halloween was excellent ! Halloween is loved in our home and my babies had a good time....until Yoda decided he would only be happy if he could run down the street alone.  Needless to say, his night and attitude changed when he realized that wasn't one of his Halloween options.

I couldn't find a handy photo of Baby Liv as a tootsie roll in 2011.

This week, we have a long topic....so bear with us !

30 Facts About Me-Topic 7

Here's the deal....

I'm an open book, so most/maybe all of these facts, you already know.  Some of these things are obvious- and some are weird quirks. So, in no particular order:

1) Have I told you I love candy corn?  If not, I love candy corn.

2) I love country music.

3)When I was in 5th grade (I think), I thought I was saved.  I wanted to be saved.  But I wasn't- though I went down front, was baptized, the whole nine yards.  When I was 12, at Greenhill Baptist Church, I was saved for real.

4) I've been married for 9+ years.

5) I have two fabulous kiddos.

6) Without my contacts, I ain't seeing a whole lot.

7) Back in the day when I wore glasses instead of contacts...and when I had plenty of eyelashes to go around, they were so long that I would trim them with scissors so that they wouldn't swipe the lenses on my glasses and make my eyes water up.

I really want those back.

8) Speaking of eyelashes, I squish the few eyelashes I possess together with tweezers.  It's part of my morning routine.

9)  I love turquoise.  It should be a neutral.

See...Even Chris Stapleton knows a touch of turquoise is necessary.

10) I never had my hair cut short or colored until a few months into the first year of my marriage...while Martinez was deployed.  And then about two weeks after that, I read an article about how military spouses shouldn't make big changes to themselves and the home when the spouse left so that upon return home, it would make adjustment easier.

Of course, in true form, I had it cut really short and my dark, brown hair highlighted very, very blonde.

11) There was a period of time in my life (a few years ago), when I constantly forgot to zip my pants. It happened everywhere too.  I can recall in detail carrying Liv (she was maybe a year old) in Wal-Mart and wondering why people were staring.  I later learned that my pants were unzipped and my shirt was hiked up under Liv's leg.

12) When I eat candy bars, I normally peel all the chocolate off the outside with my teeth - then work my way to the middle.

It gets kinda messy.

13) Going camping would be a form of torture to me.  Count me out.

14) I worry every day about whether or not my kids are happy.

15) On Friday nights, I MUST have clean sheets on the bed, all furniture in our bedroom dusted, floor vacuumed and the bathroom thoroughly cleaned.  It's like the entire weekend might be ruined if this isn't done.  I would prefer this be done in the entire house on Friday - but our bedroom is a requirement.

16) I need all the beds made in the house before we leave.  Coming home to an unmade bed creates a sense of chaos for me.

17) I must have sour cream in our refrigerator at all times, even if I'm not planning to use it soon.

18) I'm a porch sittin' kinda gal.

19) Large amounts of bread creates quite a bit of flatulence for me, so my bread eating has lessened significantly.

You're glad I told you that aren't ya?

20) I hate to be late.

21) Red cinnamon (big red, hot tamale's, etc) peels the lining of my mouth out.  My favorite toothpaste years ago was the crest cinnamon kind- and when my gums started to bleed, I gave it up.  I will say that I've been able to sneak my favorite big red gum back into my life in small increments!

22) 1 or 2 speakers in my car are blown out.  Martinez says it's from having my music too loud, but I'm sure it's from something else.

23) Sometimes, I make myself wear jeans that are way too tight as punishment for snackin' a little too much.

24) I'm the worst person ever with technology.  I still listen to cd's in my car because I just can't quite get the iTunes or whatever it is people are using these days.  I also know that when Martinez tries to explain it that I'm probably not going to retain the information- so I don't really bother him about it.

25) I'm grateful that my parents never really enabled my brother and I and taught us to work hard.  It's been important in all aspects of my life.

26)  I'm a home body.

27) I'll choose a long necklace over a short necklace most days.

28) I love makeup !

29)  I want to vacation in Montana where there are probably lots of nothing, horses, sunshine and cowboys.

30)  Some of you will not want to be my friend after this, and that's ok.

I don't buy cottage cheese often, but when I do, I get really excited when there is a large curd in my spoonful.  I like to squeeze it between my teeth.

I will also add that I don't buy the large curd cottage cheese.  It rhymes with turd and that is not lost on me.

Have you recovered from that grossness?

The DeShazo and I thought it would be fun to list 30 facts about the other in honor of a 9 year friendship we've been blessed with.  Let's see what we come up with...
